Island life is good for writer Nick and his partner John, a local fisherman. They live, love and have family problems, just like everyone else. Yet, portions of their life together aren’t normal and never have been. Nick is still famous for seeing ghosts and Josh, his much younger brother who reads minds, is coming for a long anticipated visit from the United States. These three are having a nice visit until John’s niece, Caitrin starts to fight with her mother and a group of tourists with an interest in the local ‘standing’ stones arrive and one of them recognizes Nick.

Dealing with ghosts can be dangerous as Nick and John have discovered in the past, and this time they’re dealing with them close to home when Caitrin and Josh accidentally set free a pair of spirits trapped by a witches spell in a local cave. Once free, they possess two unwilling victims seeking revenge for a centuries old murder…theirs. It’s almost too much for even John and Nick to cope with but they must or someone won’t survive.

Waking the Dead is the third in Ms. Davitt & Snow’s ongoing paranormal series following the life and love of John and Nick. This story takes up approximately eight years after the last book with Nick’s half brother, Josh now grown. As in the other books, this one is well plotted, well written and filled with intriguing and interesting secondary characters that round out the tale. The interjection of both Nick’s and Josh’s paranormal abilities is well handled and done in a manner that is both respectful and realistic. While these two people have abilities that most don’t, they are never allowed to overshadow the human part of the story.

The love between John and Nick is still as tender and passionate as ever, and it’s great seeing them a little older, and that they have become more comfortable with their lives and each other. Josh is a great addition to the storyline and I hope that we see more of him in future books since his ability to read minds would make for very interesting plotlines. I loved the vividly described scenes with the two primary ghosts and the ones that Nick raised from the local graveyard.

I guess when it all comes to the end I can’t say enough good things about this paranormal story. It has a little something for everyone…love, passion, family, death, revenge, redemption and forgiveness. This story and the others in this well crafted series are definitely worth the read…and then a re-read again. Enjoy!

John and Nick have built a nice life for themselves in their island home of Traighshee.  And after all these years John has gotten used to the fact that Nick can talk to ghosts, but the fact that Josh, Nick’s brother, can read minds still throws him off – more so now that Josh is coming to visit.

When Josh arrives life keeps going just like before, but when an accident involving Josh and Caitrin, John’s niece, unleashes two very angry ghosts, it threatens everything John and Nick have built.  Will they survive possessions by these ghosts and their murderous intentions?

Waking the Dead is a wonderfully suspenseful romance that will grab your imagination and then your heart as the story unfolds.  Nick and John have now been together for many years but their love and passion remain just as bright as the first day – which gives this story a different, but enticing angle.  Now, with Josh’s visit it adds yet another paranormal element that serves to make this story even more interesting as angry ghosts seek revenge on the residents of the island.  John, Nick and Josh won’t fail to pull you into their hair-raising experience while reminding you how sweet long-standing love can be – especially when faced with the possibility of loss.  The emotional and erotic scenes are poignant and heart-warming in ways that will leave you sighing and wishing John and Nick were real. Waking the Dead is a skillfully written tale that will grab you and keep your attention from the first page to the last while you will live the journey with John, Nick and Josh through their traumatic ordeal.

Get yourself Waking the Dead the next time you go shopping and plan on reading it all in one sitting – it’s that engrossing!

John and Nick have been enjoying their quiet life on the little Scottish Island of Traighshee and are nervous and excited that Nicks half-brother, Josh, is coming for a visit. Both men are worried that Josh will find their quaint life boring, after all what teenager would enjoy an extended stay on an island so small you can walk anywhere? But, when you have a habit of dealing with ghosts and your baby brother can read minds, nothing is ever simple and easy.

Waking the Dead is the third book in the wonderful Laying a Ghost series by Jane Davitt & Alexa Snow. I have devoured these books one after the other and could hardly wait to read each one. Waking the Dead picks up about eight years after the events in Giving up the Ghost. Things have settled down quite nicely for Nick and John and their love is still burning high and hot. The sensual scenes between the two shows the depth of their feelings and highlights just how deeply their love runs, I only wish that all relationships could be as strong as theirs. I really enjoyed Josh as a character. In the previous book we didn’t really learn much about him and seeing how much he had grown in both talent and personality was fun. I’m very thankful that I don’t have powers such as these two men are cursed with, while it was enjoyable to read about the events that occurred I personally would have no desire to live them. Waking the Dead is a flight of fantasy that allowed my mind to soar to new heights, living vicariously through the characters. Waking the Dead is a solid 5 Angel for me!
