A book had always been an acceptable gift between lovers in Angel’s
youth. Like flowers, it was a trifling token of esteem; nothing to
raise the most censorious eyebrow.

book could tell more than one story too - and where better to hide a
love letter than within a volume of poems?

Sonnets and the slip of paper that would have left her breathless and
besotted yellowed unread at the heart of the book.
