Fishing For Compliments

by Jane Davitt

The salmon, scales gleaming silver even in death, lies sedately on ice.

Xander remembers catching his first salmon, John encouraging him, the humiliation of a tangled line forgotten. John… A good man, but not the right one for Xander.

"Are you in the mood for fish?"

Xander turns and grins at Giles, loving him for being exactly the right choice. "If we weren't in Tesco, I'd show you what I'm in the mood for."

Giles raises his eyebrows and pushes the almost empty cart away. "Home. Now."

It's the perfect romantic gesture until the cart crashes into the baked beans.
